“In the era of national development, I think the press plays a very important role. It was extremely important in the past, but it will be even more important in the coming period."
That was the affirmation of Professor Vu Minh Khuong, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, in an interview with VNA reporters in Singapore on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).
According to Professor Vu Minh Khuong, revolutionary journalism in the era of growth needs to pay attention to three points.
One is enlightenment. In the era of progress, the great strength of progress is enlightenment, always looking out at the world with an eagle's eye and looking at reality to understand what we need to do. That is what revolutionary journalism must grasp very firmly to enlighten everyone, to understand clearly, not just using the thoughts of the past or of oneself. The world today is changing very quickly, technology is also changing constantly, so the enlightenment of journalism is especially important.
Second, which is also a characteristic of the Vietnamese people, is the great strength of national unity. The press must stimulate the national spirit and the resonance of the Vietnamese people to create great strength.
Third, the role of the press is to help the country develop, look straight at the truth, have iron discipline to review what the country has not done and truly reform. The era of rising up is the era in which the Vietnamese people will rise up and grow, creating great things. One of the great strengths is to have proper criticism, build and find solutions to succeed, so that humanity can learn from Vietnam.
Professor Vu Minh Khuong affirmed that the above are very important and that the Vietnamese revolutionary press needs to pay close attention to in the next two decades, in the era of national growth./.
