Viktor Gyokeres is becoming the focus of the summer transfer market in 2025 after an explosive season at Sporting Lisbon, where he scored 54 goals in 52 appearances. With his incredible scoring efficiency, the Swedish striker quickly caught the attention of many European giants, most notably Arsenal.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Arsenal are now very close to signing Gyokeres. In fact, the North London club believe they have "touched the finish line" in this deal. Tavolieri revealed that Gyokeres has agreed personal terms with Arsenal, including a five-year contract. All that remains is to complete negotiations on the transfer fee between Arsenal and Sporting.
Transfermarkt currently values Gyokeres at €75m, which is a large but not surprising figure given his importance to Sporting's squad last season. The Portuguese side is said to be pushing the price up to the highest level before "nodding".
In addition to Arsenal, Manchester United were also interested in Gyokeres, especially after former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim was spotted at Old Trafford. However, sources close to the striker confirmed that the Swedish striker was more inclined towards Arsenal.
FourFourTwo commented: "Gyokeres is the missing piece in Arsenal's quest for a true centre-forward - something they have relied on in recent campaigns."
The big question now is whether Gyokeres can replicate that fearsome scoring form in the Premier League – a much tougher environment than Portugal – but his time in England (with Coventry City and Brighton) should help his adaptation.
Although the deal is not 100% complete, it seems that manager Mikel Arteta is getting closer to signing the signature he has been waiting for – a striker who can take Arsenal to new heights in the title race next season.
