Many believe that Apple will split the Vision product line into two variants: a Pro model and a cheaper standard model. Apple is said to have de-prioritized the virtual reality headset models and gradually assigned fewer employees to the project.
The company has announced that it is suspending production of the next generation of the Vision Pro, but it is still working on a more affordable and feature-rich "Vision" product.
And recently, in Mark Gurman's latest Power On newsletter, Apple's Vision virtual reality glasses team is continuing to test a number of different products including the low-cost Apple Vision mixed reality glasses, the second generation of Apple Vision Pro as well as a version of smart glasses.
The high price tag has slowed sales of the Vision Pro. But far from losing momentum, Apple appears to be on track to release a cheaper Apple Vision headset, which could launch as early as next year, Gurman said.
Previously, it was reported that Apple had apparently begun researching a cheaper Vision device codenamed N109 in 2022 with an expected price of $1,600. However, the company is still looking to reduce the cost of the product without sacrificing many features, so the device is rumored to appear in late 2025.
