According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 12 noon today (August 18), the center of the tropical depression was located at about 19.4 degrees north latitude; 108.0 degrees east longitude, about 85km southeast of Bach Long Vi Island. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 6-7 (39-61km/h), gusting to level 9.
It is forecasted that in the next 3 hours, the tropical depression will move in the North-Northwest direction, at a speed of about 15km/hour.
It is forecasted that tonight, the tropical depression will make landfall in Quang Ninh province with winds of 45 km/hour.
By 7am tomorrow morning, the tropical depression will be strong at level 6, gusting to level 8, moving northwest over the Quang Ninh- Lang Son area, then changing direction to the Vietnam-China border, directly affecting the Gulf of Tonkin (including Bach Long Vi, Cat Hai, Co To and Van Don special zones).
By 10 p.m. tomorrow (August 19), the tropical depression will continue to move in a North-Northwest direction, at a speed of 10-15 km/hour and gradually weaken into a low pressure area over the Guangxi region (China).
Due to the influence of the tropical depression, at sea, the Gulf of Tonkin area (including Bach Long Vi, Cat Hai, Co To and Van Don special zones) will have thunderstorms and strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 9, waves 2-3.5m high, and rough seas. Ships operating in the above-mentioned dangerous areas are likely to be affected by thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds, and large waves.
On land, from the afternoon of August 18, coastal areas from Quang Ninh and Hai Phong will have strong winds of level 6, gusting to level 8.
From August 18 to the night of August 19, the Northeast and Thanh Hoa will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 50-150mm, locally very heavy rain over 300mm.
On the day and night of August 18, Nghe An and Ha Tinh areas will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 30-60mm, locally very heavy rain over 150mm.
