4 performances help Phuong My Chi overcome a series of opponents at the Chinese playground

(Dan Tri) - Through 4 performances at Sing! Asia 2025, Phuong My Chi showed maturity in her singing style and artistic thinking, while affirming herself as a young artist with the responsibility of spreading Vietnamese culture.

Phuong My Chi's journey in Singapore! Asia 2025 is receiving special attention from domestic audiences. After winning the quarter-finals, the female singer officially entered the semi-finals, marking a step forward in her first appearance at a foreign music playground.

Despite having different scores, all four performances of the Vietnamese representative leave a strong impression. Each performance was not only carefully invested in artistically by Phuong My Chi but also contributed to spreading cultural values, bringing the image of Vietnam closer to international friends.

Under the advice of the DTAP group, each performance has its own color and message, carefully crafted from music to images.

Moon trading

At the first competition station in Ha Long Bay (Vietnam), Phuong My Chi chose Buon Trang, a song composed by DTAP, inspired by the poem Day Thon Vi Da by Han Mac Tu.

The performance combines emotional voice, typical folk singing techniques and Vovinam martial arts dance to create an emotional whole.

Not only conquering the audience with her listening, Phuong My Chi also created a visual impression with her Northern-style costume including ao tu than, yem dao, non quai Thao and the stork detail cleverly integrated on stage.

Phuong My Chi said that performing Buon Trang in Ha Long Bay brought her many emotions: "This place is not only my hometown but also a source of inspiration for me to send each lyric. Every time I sing, I feel the peace and depth of the sea, the moon, and memories."

The performance helped her defeat contestant Chu Phi Ca (China) and quickly clicked the top 7 trending on YouTube Vietnam after broadcasting.

Rice Rock

Competing against contestant Miyuna (Japan), Phuong My Chi performed Rock Hat Gao - a fresh remix of a song from the album Vu tru co bay. The performance was full of cheerful spirit, showing the "transformation" of the Gen Z female singer in handling rhythm and performance style.

Rock Grain of Rice has lyrics that honor the rice civilization, opening with the chant "Vietnam, white rice, clear water. Whoever goes there will not want to return" and closing with the phrase "Hello" in many languages ​​(English, Chinese, Thai...) to help international audiences interact easily.

The performance continued to help Phuong My Chi win and enter the top 10 trending on YouTube Vietnam.

Mashup Ly Bac Bo - Pushing the cart

At the Singapore station, Phuong My Chi brought a mashup performance of Ly Bac Bo - Pushing the Ox Cart , a performance imbued with the culture of the Northern Delta region.

On the background of traditional music processed in a modern way by DTAP, the singer shows his emotional voice, combining the vibrato technique of Quan Ho folk songs with the highlight of the sound of rice drums, recreating the image of Vietnamese countryside, evoking the soul of traditional culture.

In particular, the segment Pushing the Ox Cart - a song inspired by the short story The Beggar's Wife by writer Kim Lan - added depth to the performance. The choice of Bac Ninh folk songs, an intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO, shows the singer's efforts to bring Vietnamese heritage closer to international friends.

DTAP shared: "We do not only introduce folk music, but also want to send clear messages about identity, diversity and innovation in regional spiritual life. Folk songs do not only belong to the past but are still alive in the present."

Although not a performance that creates a strong explosive effect, the mashup of Ly Bac Bo and Dan Xe Bo is highly appreciated for its closeness, youthfulness but still maintains cultural depth.

Vanity

In the quarter-finals, Phuong My Chi performed Bong phu hoa, considered the "trump card" of the Vietnamese representative. With an uplifting arrangement, enhanced vocal technique, and a staging that combines martial arts, dance, and lighting, the performance was considered the pinnacle of her competition journey.

The performance opened with a literary chant "Life's tears reflect in the mirror; If you still love, you must express all your love; The story of a girl from Nam Xuong; Broken love because of a figure", creating a catchy melody from the first minutes.

The song "Bong Phu Hoa" combines the traditional musical instrument of the Southern amateur music and Buddhist folk culture elements such as the requiem ceremony, contributing to creating artistic depth and conveying the image of Vietnam from a spiritual and cultural perspective.

In particular, the production team also translated the chorus into Chinese, making it easier for international audiences to access the content of the song The Story of a Girl from Nam Xuong. This approach becomes a cultural bridge, helping to touch the hearts of many listeners.

With an outstanding performance, Phuong My Chi won against contestant Hoang Linh (Hong Kong, China) in this act, officially entering the semi-finals. Bong Phu Hoa currently has more than 7 million views, holding the top 1 trending position on YouTube Vietnam.
