In her opening speech, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen, President of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU), said that currently, the country has more than 800 press agencies with about 41,000 people working in the field of journalism and media, of which about 21,000 people are granted press cards.

The force of female journalists is increasingly strong in both quality and quantity, but its full potential has not been fully exploited. The Vietnam Journalists Association has more than 40% female members, but to date there is still no female leader at the level of Vice President or higher; the number of female editors-in-chief is not commensurate with the number of female journalists. Gender-insensitive press products still exist, affecting the transformation of awareness and gender equality actions of the entire community.

“Entering a new era with the digital transformation taking place strongly, female journalists and female journalism are facing many opportunities and challenges, requiring courage, professionalism and a desire for constant innovation. The Organizing Committee of the Conference received 35 papers, the content of which focused on analyzing the role and contribution of the press, especially female journalism and female journalists, in the revolutionary cause, promoting gender equality, spreading humanistic values and social progress.

At the same time, the presentations also frankly pointed out the challenges and shortcomings in the current practice of journalism such as: The proportion of women holding leadership positions in press agencies is still low; gender sensitivity issues in media content; the need to improve the quality of training and fostering journalists in the context of digital transformation. Many presentations proposed practical solutions to promote the role of journalism in the new era such as: Strengthening gender mainstreaming in journalism training; building a mechanism to encourage, discover and honor journalism works that promote gender equality; in policy communication and women's empowerment", Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen emphasized.

100 years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press is associated with the moment when the country enters a new era, an era of bravery, intelligence and aspiration to rise up. Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen hopes that the conference will be a place where intelligence, experience and aspiration for innovation converge; both an opportunity to affirm the role of women in the journey of 100 years of revolutionary press, and to inspire the press, especially female press, to continue to accompany the women's movement and the sustainable development of the country in the Era of the rise of the Vietnamese people.

Dr. Nhi Le, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Communist Magazine, affirmed: “On the threshold of the New Era, in the past 5 months, our Party has issued 4 major policies including: Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, which is considered a prerequisite driving force to accelerate development; Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW on deep international integration, but still upholding the principle of independent and autonomous economic development, protecting territorial integrity; Resolution No. 66-NQ/TW on innovation in legislative work, perfecting institutions to create a stable and open legal corridor, promoting development and Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW on private economic development.

That is the "strategic quartet" that constitutes the whole ideology and action that General Secretary To Lam calls the "four pillars". These decisions have a close relationship, supporting each other as pillars to create momentum for the economy and social innovation. And, on a macro level, that is also the vision, platform for action and driving force for the development of women and the Vietnamese women's movement in the position of half of the nation, joining the country in entering a new era of prosperity".

Dr. Nhi Le proposed that the press and the Women's Union at all levels continue to implement comprehensive coordination programs, popularize creative women's start-up models, STEM for female students, and digital transformation among women. At the same time, promote the aspiration for development based on knowledge and technology; shape the image of women in the new era: Knowledge, creativity, and courage. Scientific research agencies on women should coordinate with the press to open special pages on issues: Gender equality in trade agreements, international labor standards, honoring female entrepreneurs, supporting communication for women-owned businesses; praising Vietnamese female intellectuals globally, Vietnamese women starting businesses abroad. Women's press and the pioneering press system disseminate laws related to marriage, gender violence, and child protection; participate in monitoring, social criticism, and reflect on inadequacies in gender-related policies and law enforcement. In particular, the media deserves to promote the image of Vietnamese women integrating through economics, education, and culture.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, Head of the Central Propaganda Department of the Vietnam Women's Union, said that the press is a "bridge" between the organization and its members. For women's work, the press is both a tool for transmitting information, promptly reflecting the thoughts, aspirations and important contributions of women in all fields, and an effective communication channel to raise awareness, arouse patriotism, sense of responsibility and promote the role and position of women in the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland.

“The press contributes to conveying the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws to women members through topics, special pages, reports, articles, columns on law dissemination, policy advice, news pages on marriage, family, labor, insurance, reproductive health care... These contents become a source of close and practical information, helping women, especially women in remote areas, disadvantaged women, access legal knowledge and improve their capacity to protect themselves and assert themselves in modern society. Typical examples are specialized television programs, reality television programs such as "Women and Life" (VTV1), "21st Century Women" (VTV3), "When Women Take Control" (VTV3)... have contributed to vividly portraying the image of Vietnamese women in the new era, both preserving traditions and actively integrating, contributing to the development of the community and society", Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung shared.

In addition, the press is also a voice accompanying Vietnamese women in their journey to affirm their position and role in the family and society. The efforts of female journalists and female newspapers have contributed to changing social awareness of gender, promoting gender equality, and actively contributing to the sustainable development of the country. Through articles, columns, and programs, the press has honestly and deeply reflected the lives of Vietnamese women during the war, in peace building and international integration, thereby promoting women's participation in all areas of political, economic, cultural, and social life.

At the workshop, delegates discussed two main topics: “Vietnamese revolutionary press: 100 years accompanying the women's movement” and “Revolutionary press with the mission of women in the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise”. Specifically, the contributions of female journalists in the history of Vietnamese press as well as the role of the press in promoting gender equality contribute to building a modern, civilized and sustainable society. Along with that, the role of female press and female journalists in the fourth industrial revolution, how the press contributes to enhancing the image and role of Vietnamese women in international integration; how to promote the role of the press in encouraging, motivating and supporting women in the era of prosperous development of the Vietnamese nation.
