According to RT , in an interview with the Youtube channel Ultrahang published on July 17, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called US President Donald Trump a "man of peace " but expressed skepticism about the sincerity of other Western countries as well as Ukrainian officials.
"Everyone says they want peace, but the conflict is still there. That means someone is lying. They want the conflict to continue," Mr Orban said, arguing that some sides have an interest in prolonging the war.

"The conflict will not end until Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump sit down at the negotiating table," Prime Minister Orban stressed, expressing hope that a meeting between the two leaders could lay the foundation for a broader agreement that would not only resolve the conflict in Ukraine but also global trade and arms control.
Earlier this week, President Trump announced he would impose “secondary” tariffs of up to 100% on Russia’s trading partners if President Putin did not agree to a deal to end the Ukraine conflict within 50 days.
Since returning to the White House in January 2025, President Trump has spoken to President Putin several times by phone. In May 2025, Ukraine agreed to resume direct negotiations with Russia. However, the talks stalled after two rounds.
Moscow says it remains committed to achieving its core goals in Ukraine but prefers a diplomatic solution.
