The unfinished house in Dong Tru Dong village, Ky Anh commune ( Ha Tinh ) has now become a shelter for a small family who is struggling to overcome great pain every day.
That is the situation of the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan (45 years old) who is in the final stage of stomach cancer, her health is exhausted, her life is as fragile as a candle in the wind. These days, in the simple room, the sobbing and red eyes of her 10th grade son - Nguyen Minh Quan (Ha Tinh Vocational College) - make anyone who witnesses it unable to hold back their emotions.

Quan had a dream of pursuing a career in auto repair technology. But now, in his eyes, there is only worry and fear. “Ever since I found out that my mother was sick, I was scared. I love my mother so much, I just wish she could stay with my father and me a little longer…”, Quan choked up.
His family was already in trouble. His father, Nguyen Van Thanh (53 years old), is a worker with a meager salary and has been struggling even more since his wife fell ill. Before his mother got sick, she only picked vegetables to sell, earning a few tens of thousands of dong a day. Quan and his brother are still in school, and his younger brother is in 9th grade.
Since March, Ms. Xuan began to have severe stomach cramps, but because she did not want to add to the burden on her husband and children, she silently endured. By May, when her health was exhausted, her family took her to Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi . The diagnosis left the whole family in despair: late-stage stomach cancer, no longer treatable. All the fragile hope was now just a tearful countdown.

The cost of treatment and travel has cost more than 70 million VND - an amount that the family can only borrow from relatives and neighbors. The house under construction had to be abandoned, the four cement walls have not had time to install doors. Now, Ms. Xuan is bedridden, receiving painkillers at home every day, spending more than 1 million VND each day - an expense beyond the family's means.
Mr. Thanh had to quit his job to take care of his wife, and had no income left. From being the breadwinner, he has now become an exhausted man, struggling with money and taking care of two very young children.
I just wish I could stay with dad a little longer... '
Faced with such a situation, Nguyen Minh Quan, a good son, thought about quitting school. “I want to go to work to help my father. I don’t want him to shoulder the burden alone anymore… But I’m also afraid that if I quit school, my mother will be very sad. She used to tell me to study hard to have a future,” Quan shared, his eyes filled with tears.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Que - an official of Dong Tru Dong village - said: "Thanh's family has been in difficult circumstances for many years, and has just lost their elderly mother. Now Ms. Xuan is seriously ill, and their finances are even more exhausted. They lived a decent life, always worked hard, but now they are too exhausted."

Through the Education and Times newspaper, local authorities and people earnestly call for help from the community. Any sharing, no matter how small, is a great source of encouragement to help Ms. Xuan have a little more comfort at the end of her life and to prevent her children's young dreams from being left unfinished in tears.
