Strive to complete key transport systems

In the beautiful sunny days of July 2025, the completion stages of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction project are being urgently constructed, preparing for inauguration and traffic. In addition, the Dinh Khao Bridge and Tan Phu Bridge projects are also being promoted according to schedule, contributing to the completion of the province's key transportation system.

Rach Mieu 2 Bridge ahead of schedule

At the Rach Mieu 2 bridge construction site, Mr. Can Manh Hung - Director of the XL.02 Package Management Board (Rach Mieu 2 main cable-stayed bridge) said: "We are installing steel railings, completing the fire protection system, testing cable vibration, completing the cable-stayed system, painting road markings... It is expected that the above tasks will be completed by July 31."

According to the My Thuan Project Management Board (PMU) - Ministry of Construction, up to now, the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Construction Investment Project connecting Tien Giang province and Ben Tre province (old), now Dong Thap province and Vinh Long province has reached 97.24% of the project progress, exceeding the overall progress by more than 1.43% compared to the plan. In particular, the main bridge - Rach Mieu 2 bridge is exceeding the progress by more than 6.6%.

Specifically, the road section under construction on the entire route is about 14.2km, 100% completed unloading work, and construction of crushed stone aggregate layer. Asphalt concrete construction in each segment is 13.5km/14.2km. The entire route, including roads and bridges on the route, will be completed before July 30. The bridge section has been concreted on 5/5 bridges on the route, asphalt concrete pavement has been completed on 3/5 bridges, and the remaining 2 bridges will be asphalted before July 20, 2025.

The main bridge of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge has installed expansion joints, guardrails, and median strips. On July 15, the asphalt concrete paving of the bridge was completed. The inspection, testing, and load testing of the bridge will be carried out from July 20-30. Mr. Tran Van Thi - Director of My Thuan Project Management Board said: "We strive to complete the entire project and put it into operation on August 19. From this day, people can travel back and forth on Rach Mieu 2 Bridge."

Rach Mieu 2 Bridge is expected to hold its inauguration ceremony on August 19, 2025 and will open to traffic on September 2, 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Truc Son - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said: "The province has committed to the Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh that it will prepare the best for the inauguration ceremony of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Construction Investment Project on August 19 and will open to traffic on September 2, 2025. I request the My Thuan Project Management Board and the construction unit to make the most of the remaining time to complete the project."

Visiting the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction site recently, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh commented: “The project has been shortened by 6 months compared to the original plan, demonstrating the efforts and efficiency in the construction process. The proactive use of domestic materials and equipment has significantly reduced construction costs by about 50% compared to using imported sources.”

About Dinh Khao bridge project

Discussing this issue, Mr. Nguyen Truc Son - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee shared: "After completing Rach Mieu 2 Bridge, Vinh Long Province and the Ministry of Construction will urgently coordinate to build Dinh Khao Bridge - because this is a large bridge, located on the main road of the province.

We are trying to prepare all documents and procedures to soon start construction of Dinh Khao bridge - a project implemented under the PPP form (public-private partnership investment).

According to the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, the groundbreaking of Dinh Khao Bridge is not only a joy for the people of the province, but also a common joy for the people of many provinces in the Mekong Delta. Because Rach Mieu 2 Bridge will connect traffic to National Highway 60, National Highway 57, and then join National Highway 1 to Can Tho City.

Regarding Tan Phu Bridge, the province is also preparing and trying to put it into the medium-term period of 2026-2030 to arrange the start of construction. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Truc Son affirmed: "The province is making efforts so that when Rach Mieu 2 Bridge and Dinh Khao Bridge are built, there will be Tan Phu Bridge to connect the routes to serve socio-economic development. Because if traffic congestion is left in a corner or an area, the full effect of the projects we have invested in will not be fully utilized. Vinh Long province will try to pursue and mobilize resources, including the province having to propose to the Central Government specific mechanisms, to try to obtain investment resources to build essential traffic projects."

Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh emphasized: “The investment project to build Rach Mieu 2 Bridge connecting Vinh Long and Dong Thap provinces will create a vital traffic axis, connecting the Western provinces with Ho Chi Minh City, promoting economic development and trade exchange between regions. The transportation of goods and agricultural products will be more convenient, contributing to improving the income and life of local people. The project will also create budget revenue for local authorities through economic and tourism activities.”
