Defendant Minh was in the business of trading frozen seafood. At first, Minh traded on a small scale, delivered and paid in full, so he was provided with a stable source of goods by his partners at prices cheaper than the market.
Around June 2022, due to personal spending and owing many people large amounts of money that he could not pay, Minh used fraudulent tricks to appropriate other people's property.
The defendant provided false information, such as needing capital to do business in buying and selling seafood in large quantities; if they pooled capital, they would share profits or could provide large quantities of frozen seafood at cheap prices; lied that the goods had problems and could not enter Hue and then borrowed money to unload the goods...
Because of trust, the victims transferred money to Minh, but Minh did not deliver the goods or return the money as promised, but instead appropriated it for personal use.
During Minh's criminal acts, Thanh participated and helped Minh appropriate money from the victims.
The total amount of money that Minh and his wife appropriated from the 4 victims was more than 36.7 billion VND.
After deliberation, the Trial Panel sentenced Le Thi Thai Minh to 18 years in prison and Bui Tu Thanh to 12 years in prison for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

On the same afternoon, Hue City People's Court opened the first instance trial of the case of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" and "Abuse of trust to appropriate property" against defendant Hoang Minh Toan (born in 1977), residing in Dong Hung Thuan ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City.
Defendant Hoang Minh Toan is the General Director of Global Online Auction Company, with a representative office on the 5th floor, ETI Building, 24 Ly Thuong Kiet, Thuan Hoa District, Hue City.
During the process of organizing property auctions in Thua Thien Hue province (now Hue city), before participating in the auction, bidders had to pay a registration fee and deposit money in advance. Defendant Hoang Minh Toan took advantage of this and repeatedly appropriated other people's property.
In the JBIC project of Huong Thuy Protective Forest Management Board on exploitation and thinning of 50.95 hectares of planted forest wood, on April 7, 2022, Toan received 1.3 billion VND from Mr. NVH.
When Mr. NVH won the auction, this deposit was converted into a deposit to execute the contract to buy and sell the auctioned property. However, in early December 2022, Toan fled to appropriate the money.
In addition, through the organization of the auction of timber exploitation in production forests of Phong Dien Town People's Committee, Toan appropriated and did not return the deposit of 4 victims, each of more than 1.5 billion VND; appropriated more than 1.5 billion VND in deposit of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment) of Phong Dien Town.
At the trial, the panel sentenced defendant Hoang Minh Toan to 12 years in prison for “Abuse of trust to appropriate property” and 13 years in prison for “Fraudulent appropriation of property”. The total sentence the defendant must serve is 25 years in prison.
