Bus fire in Thailand: At least 10 students killed

A VNA correspondent in Bangkok quoted Thai media as saying that at least 10 students from a school in Uthai Thani province died and many others were injured when a bus carrying them caught fire on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Bangkok at around 12:30 p.m. on October 1.

Initial reports said the double-decker bus was carrying 38 students and six teachers from Wat Khao Phraya School in Lan Sak district, Uthai Thani province, on its way to a sightseeing tour in Bangkok.

Among the passengers, 19 people were rescued from the bus and taken to hospital for treatment.

Witnesses reported seeing an explosion at the back of the bus, followed by a fire. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra sent his condolences to the families of the victims of the fire.
