
Nghiem Van Y is a leading MMA fighter in Vietnamese sports who has reached the semi-finals of the Road to UFC 2025 tournament. The match between Nghiem Van Y and Lawrence Lui (a Chinese-New Zealand fighter) took place on the evening of August 22 in Shanghai (China).
In the first round, Nghiem Van Y played with excitement and took the initiative to attack with high kicks to overwhelm his opponent. However, Lawrence Lui played wisely, keeping a distance to launch dangerous attacks.
In the second round, Nghiem Van Y and his opponent continued to use dangerous moves to find a chance to knock each other down. Suddenly, in the middle of the round, Nghiem Van Y was hit by Lawrence Lui's hand and fell to the floor. Taking advantage, Lawrence Lui closed in to attack Nghiem Van Y with rice pounding punches. The referee stopped the match. Lawrence Lui won by knockout.
Before reaching the semi-finals, Nghiem Van Y won by knockout against Rui Imura (Japan) in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, the Vietnamese MMA fighter did not have another victory.
Martial artist Nghiem Van Y was a member of the Vietnam Wushu Team. Nghiem Van Y participated in the 18th ASIAD in 2018 in Indonesia and won a bronze medal. He is the only martial artist from Vietnam participating in the Road to UFC 2025 tournament.
