This is the 9th World Heritage Site of Vietnam recognized by UNESCO, and the second inter-provincial Heritage Site, after Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago (in Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city). Vietnam's dossier was approved with absolute consensus from all member countries of the World Heritage Committee.
The Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son – Kiep Bac complex is closely associated with the formation and development of the Truc Lam Zen sect – a Buddhist Zen sect with Vietnamese identity founded by King Tran Nhan Tong in the 13th century. Not only does it have special historical – cultural – spiritual value, the complex also has a harmonious beauty between ancient architecture, natural landscape and endemic ecosystem.
Being recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site continues to affirm the position and unique value of Vietnam's cultural heritage in the international arena, while also setting high requirements for the conservation and sustainable promotion of the cultural, historical and landscape values of the complex in the future.
