After a short time of training, Bui Alex scored points with the coaching staff of U22 Vietnam. The striker of mixed Vietnamese and Czech descent is on the shortlist of 28 players, preparing for the journey to defend the championship at the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship. Bui Alex's presence promises to bring more creative options to the U23 Vietnam attack.
On the other hand, after evaluating through training sessions and two internal matches, coach Kim Sang-sik and the coaching staff decided to eliminate 8 players including Nguyen Quang Vinh, Dang Duong, Long Vu, Xuan Tien, Le Phat, Bao Long, Quang Kiet and most notably Le Van Thuan. The striker from Thanh Hoa just won the title of Best Young Player in V.League 2024/25, but could not compete with other strikers in this training session.
On the afternoon of July 6, the group of 8 eliminated players returned to their home clubs, preparing for the new season and waiting for the opportunity to return to the Vietnam U22 team in the next training sessions, towards the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games.
According to the plan, U22 Vietnam will practice in Ba Ria Vung Tau until July 12, before moving to Ho Chi Minh City, preparing to fly to Indonesia on July 14. Before departure, coach Kim Sang-sik will finalize the official list of 23 players. In this tournament, the team will be called U23 Vietnam.
U23 Vietnam is in the same group with U23 Laos and U23 Cambodia, competing on July 19 and July 22 respectively. As the defending champion for two consecutive years, U23 Vietnam continues to receive high expectations in the regional arena.
