Before the opening match against Myanmar U19 women's team (June 9), coach Okiyama Masahiko of the Vietnam U19 women's team emphasized his ambitions for the future: "I have 3 goals. First, we consider the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Women's Championship as an important preparation step for the Asian U20 Women's Championship qualifiers in August.

Second, we want to win the tournament when it is held at home. Finally, I hope the teams in the region will develop together even stronger.”

In the opening match, the Vietnam U19 women's team will face a strong opponent, the Myanmar U19 women's team. Evaluating the opponent, Mr. Okiyama frankly admitted: "I don't have much information about what formation Myanmar uses or what outstanding players they have. However, we will prepare carefully to be in the best condition when entering the match. Tactical options will be flexibly adjusted depending on the actual developments on the field."

The Japanese coach shared that the team has been training in Ho Chi Minh City for a long time so they have adapted to the unpredictable weather conditions.

Regarding the championship goal, Mr. Okiyama said that this is a completely reasonable direction: "We have many quality players, they have implemented the training plan well during the preparation process. In particular, this generation of players has a modern football mindset and the ability to learn very quickly. I believe this is a team capable enough to aim for the championship."

Head coach Thet Thet Win of Myanmar’s U19 women’s team said: “We don’t have much time to prepare, but the whole team is very determined. The opening match against host Vietnam will definitely be difficult, but we will try our best to get a good result.”

In this year's tournament, the Vietnam U19 women's team is in Group A with opponents Myanmar, Laos and Timor Leste. Meanwhile, Group B includes teams from Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and Malaysia. The tournament takes place from June 9 to June 18, 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City. Three stadiums will be used for the matches: Thong Nhat Stadium, District 8 Stadium and Phu Tho Stadium.
