Cai Lay Town: Receiving Certificate of Recognition as Vietnam Heritage Tree

(ABO) On June 18, the People's Committee of Cai Lay Town, Tien Giang Province held a ceremony to announce the Decision and receive the Certificate of recognition as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree for the banyan tree (Ward 2, Ward 5).

At the ceremony, the leaders of the Town's Department of Culture and Information approved the Decision to recognize the Vietnam Heritage Tree and the Decision to establish the Heritage Tree Management Board. According to the decision, the banyan tree at the Seven Ladies and Five Mothers Temple (Ward 2, Ward 5) is over 235 years old.

The circumference of the tree trunk at a height of 1.5 m above the ground is about 24 m; the height of the tree is about 40 m; the canopy width is about 900 m 2 . The tree is currently growing well, every year, the tree still flowers and bears fruit very abundantly, the space around the base of the tree is spacious.

The banyan tree is a historical relic associated with the formation and development of a land rich in revolutionary traditions, closely associated with the lives of the people of Ward 2, Ward 5, Cai Lay Town today (Ward 6, Cai Lay Town, Cai Lay District before).

With its landscape, cultural and historical values, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment decided to recognize the banyan tree (Ward 2, Ward 5) as a Vietnam Heritage Tree. This is also the first Vietnam Heritage Tree in the town to be recognized.

Speaking at the ceremony, Member of the Town Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cai Lay Town Vo Thi Bup emphasized: Recognizing the banyan tree as a Heritage Tree not only contributes to protecting the landscape and preserving biodiversity, but also honors traditional cultural values, raising community awareness in nature conservation.

This is also a manifestation of the morality of "remembering the source of water", gratitude to ancestors who have preserved and cultivated; at the same time,educating the younger generation to appreciate and preserve the precious historical values of the homeland.

The Vice Chairman of the Town People's Committee requested the local government and people to continue to pay attention to and effectively implement measures to preserve banyan trees in a long-term and sustainable manner; develop specific plans for the care, protection and promotion of the historical and cultural values of the Heritage Tree.

At the same time, it is necessary to combine the protection of banyan trees with propaganda and traditional education activities, creating a community living space associated with nature conservation, contributing to preserving the cultural identity and friendly, affectionate image of the locality.
