Cai Lay Town: Strengthening care for Agent Orange victims

Since Directive 43 dated April 15, 2015 of the Secretariat of the 11th Party Central Committee on “Strengthening the Party’s leadership in resolving the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam” was implemented, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (AVA) of Cai Lay Town, Tien Giang Province has made continuous efforts to overcome difficulties to care for, support and protect the rights of victims living with severe consequences of Agent Orange/Dioxin.

Mr. Truong Van Rang, Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Lay Town, said that at first, the activities of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in the town faced many difficulties. The facilities were lacking, and the human resources were limited in both capacity and health. However, thanks to the timely attention and direction of the Town Party Committee, the Town People's Committee and departments, branches and organizations, the Association gradually stabilized, consolidated and grew stronger.

Up to now, the Association has become a solid spiritual support for families of Agent Orange victims. From being a newly established organization with many limitations in resources, the staff mainly working without remuneration, up to now, the Association has developed with 16/16 communes and wards having grassroots Association organizations, 72 branches.

Up to now, the whole Cai Lay town has 890 AO victims receiving subsidies from the state. Not only stopping at policy support, the Association of AO victims of Cai Lay town also pays special attention to the spiritual and material life of AO victims.

Over the past 10 years, through the movements "Action for Agent Orange Victims" and "Joining hands to ease the pain of Agent Orange", the Association has mobilized tens of billions of VND from local and foreign benefactors.

From mobilized resources, all levels of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Cai Lay Town have supported more than 57,000 victims, with a total value of more than 14 billion VND. The support is not only cash but also includes necessities, medicine, housing construction... to help families of Victims of Agent Orange stabilize their lives.

In particular, 24 "Agent Orange Shelters" have been built and donated, providing solid homes for Agent Orange victims in difficult circumstances.

In addition, the town's Association of Victims of Agent Orange also organized medical examinations and provided free medicine to more than 2,000 victims, contributing to reducing the medical burden for families who have faced many consequences from toxic chemicals.

Each charity program for NNCĐDC carries the heart of the community, creating a wide network of sharing, spreading the spirit of mutual love throughout society...
