Commemorating the 530th anniversary of the death of General Nguyen Tuan Thien

With many activities organized, the ceremony was an opportunity for the people of Son Ninh commune (Huong Son, Ha Tinh ) to express their gratitude for the contributions of the famous Nguyen Tuan Thien - a general of the Later Le Dynasty to the country.

On the morning of February 27, the People's Committee of Son Ninh Commune (Huong Son) held a ceremony to commemorate the 530th anniversary of the death of General Nguyen Tuan Thien; and the 30th anniversary of the ranking of the tomb and temple of Nguyen Tuan Thien as a national historical and cultural relic.

General Nguyen Tuan Thien (1401 - 1494), national name Le Thien, was from Phuc Dau village, Phuc Duong commune, An Ap canton (now Kim Hoa commune, Huong Son) and later moved to Ninh Xa village, Son Ninh commune. He was born into a poor family, famous for being strong, tall, good at martial arts and loving his country and people. Growing up in a country invaded by the Ming invaders, he nurtured the will to fight; led the gathering of like-minded people to establish the Coc Son militia, and rose up to fight the Ming invaders.

In 1425, after the victory at Kha Luu - Bo Ai, the Lam Son insurgents reached Da Loi (Kim Lien commune, Nam Dan, Nghe An today), Nguyen Tuan Thien paid homage to Le Loi, and fought together. Le Loi and Nguyen Tuan Thien swore an oath and became sworn brothers. From then on, the Coc Son army became an important, elite force of the Lam Son insurgents, continuously winning many victories, liberating the country from the oppression and slavery of the Northern invaders.

The program's organizers presented certificates of merit in recognition of the contributions of philanthropists in the restoration and embellishment of Nguyen Tuan Thien's tomb and temple.

After defeating the Ming invaders, with his talent and achievements, King Le Thai To ranked Nguyen Tuan Thien among the founding heroes, granted him the national surname Le Thien and appointed him as Deputy Marshal of the General Staff. King Le Thanh Tong bestowed upon him the title Thai Bao Huan District Duke. After a period of being an official, he claimed illness and returned to live in seclusion in his hometown in Ninh Xa village, Son Ninh commune, Huong Son and died in 1494.

After his death, in memory of the founding general, the local people and his descendants built a tomb and temple for him at Kim Quy mound. In 1994, the Ministry of Culture and Information, now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ranked Nguyen Tuan Thien's tomb and temple as a national historical and cultural relic. Since then, the relic site has been increasingly renovated by the local government, the people and his descendants. Every year, on the 18th day of the first lunar month, Son Ninh commune and his family hold a memorial ceremony to commemorate General Nguyen Tuan Thien to spread and promote the value of the legacy he left for future generations.

The 530th anniversary of the death of General Nguyen Tuan Thien and the 30th anniversary of the ranking of the national historical and cultural relic of Nguyen Tuan Thien's tomb and temple were solemnly organized by the People's Committee of Son Ninh commune and descendants of the family. Along with the commemoration and incense offering ceremony, the Organizing Committee also carried out the procession of the General's spirit tablet from the tomb to the temple with the participation of many local people.
