A special art program called Loi Tuong - Voice of Youth was recently held in Hanoi , by a group of media students from the Tan Tich Tuong project in collaboration with the Vietnam Tuong Theater.
The program is a series of activities including talk shows, art performances and interactions, with the goal of bringing the art of Tuong - a classical theatrical form rich in cultural values - closer to the young generation through a modern, vivid and intuitive lens.

Excerpt from "Ho Nguyet Co turns into a fox" was performed emotionally on stage by Meritorious Artist Loc Huyen (left) and Manh Linh.
The program opened with an excerpt from the classic Ho Nguyet Co turns into a fox, performed by artists from the Vietnam Tuong Theater. The classic play, based on a story from Hat Boi, was renewed in form and expression, creating a tragic and soulful stage space.
The character Ho Nguyet Co - a fox who cultivated to become a human - became entangled in a love affair with Tiet Giao, then lost her way in the war between two dynasties. A minute of losing her life-giving spirit pearl led to an irreparable tragedy.
With expressive body language, elegant lyrics, elaborate costumes and skillful performance techniques, the artists not only recreated the tragic story, but also touched the emotional depths of young audiences – those who thought that tuong was something “ancient and difficult to understand”.
After the performance, veteran artists such as Meritorious Artist Loc Huyen, Meritorious Artist Tran Long, and Meritorious Artist Nguyen Kieu Oanh had a chance to interact with the young audience. Behind-the-scenes stories, the journey to preserve the profession, and sharing about the future of Tuong art made the atmosphere warmer and more authentic.
According to Meritorious Artist Nguyen Kieu Oanh, tuong is a long-standing classical art form. However, like many other traditional art forms, tuong is facing difficulties in reaching the public, especially the young, in the face of many modern art forms. That requires tuong artists to find a way to both preserve and maintain but still promote its values.

Young people get to experience playing the role of a Tuong artist.
A highlight of the program that cannot be missed is the Touch Tuong experience, where students are guided by artists in applying makeup, practicing basic movements and directly playing traditional Tuong roles. Many young people have their first chance to touch “real Tuong” – from the facial paint to each foot stomp, eye contact, and singing voice that echoes on stage. This new experience helps them feel the depth, sophistication and symbolism of traditional art.
Ngo The Quan, a student majoring in Multimedia Communications, shared: “ We often think that Tuong is very strange, but today, having watched it, been made up, and performed it, I realized that Tuong is not old at all – it just hasn’t been told in the way we understand it. Tuong is very emotional and touches the heart.”
Lyric – Voice of the Children is not only a normal artistic activity, but also a living proof that traditional art can completely “connect generations”.
