On August 11, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City informed about the situation related to the American International School (AISVN) Primary, Middle and High School.
AISVN was suspended by the Department of Education and Training for 12 months, starting from July 1 last year, because the school did not ensure teaching conditions, financial resources, teachers, and staff according to the 2019 Education Law and Decree 46 of the Government.
According to the Department representative, after one year, AISVN has not yet proposed a solution to the above problems, and at the same time requested to extend the suspension period for another year.
The management agency added that during the time the American International School was suspended from educational activities, the Department of Education and Training issued documents guiding the implementation of reports with evidence of fully resolving the causes leading to the suspension.
In June, the Department of Education and Training had a meeting with representatives of AIS American International Education Joint Stock Company and American International School on the progress of the dossier to remedy the causes leading to the suspension of educational activities.
At the meeting, the Department requested the investor to make a report with evidence of fully overcoming the causes.
However, on June 18, the representative of AIS American International Education Joint Stock Company, American International School signed document No. 18.06/2025/AISVN reporting on the remediation and application for extension of the suspension of educational activities from June 30, 2025 to June 30, 2026 (12 months).
However, according to the Department, the above document has not yet mentioned how to overcome the causes leading to the suspension of educational activities.
In addition, as of the end of June, the company has not yet fulfilled its tax declaration obligations for March and April. The total amount of money still overdue for payment to social insurance, health insurance , unemployment insurance funds... of the company and the school is more than 31 billion VND.
Thus, by the end of June, investors still do not have an effective financial plan to resolve and pay debts to other management agencies.
Therefore, the Department of Education and Training has reported the situation and submitted it to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration and decision to dissolve the American International Primary, Middle and High School at 220 Nguyen Van Tao, Hiep Phuoc Commune, Ho Chi Minh City according to Clause 2, Article 51 of the 2019 Education Law.
In case the investor meets the conditions for establishment, he/she will prepare a dossier for appraisal and permission to establish a general school with many levels according to current regulations.
Previously, in May, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em, Chairwoman of the School Board, was arrested for disturbing public order. The Ho Chi Minh City Inspectorate also transferred the case to the investigation agency, requesting clarification of signs of illegal capital mobilization by the American International Education Joint Stock Company AIS, through loan and education investment contracts that this unit signed with parents.
