Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport accepts IELTS 6.0 to exempt English course

Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport has just announced the acceptance of additional IELTS certificates and foreign language certificates equivalent to the school's English training standards.

Accept IELTS 6.0 or higher and equivalent foreign language certificates

Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport informs students that the standard training program and the advanced program for the 2024 enrollment period are not subject to direct admission according to the project using criterion 2 (using English certificates) regarding the acceptance of converted certificates equivalent to English training standards.

The types of certificates accepted by the school are English certificates that are valid as of the date of receiving the application with the following scores or higher: IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 60, TOEFL ITP 530, TOIEC 600, level 4 according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam.

Students submit their foreign language certificates to the school online at the online support channel: https://support.ut.edu.vn/; support title: Training Department/UTH Foreign Language Training Standards, from now until December 31.

The school noted: "Students need to submit notarized copies of certificates and transcripts. For IELTS certificates, students need to contact the certificate issuing unit to request that the student's transcript be sent to the school's address."

Students who are exempted from English at any level will be exempted from tuition fees at that level.

On the morning of December 18, speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport - said: "With the spirit of seeking knowledge, after receiving information from Tuoi Tre newspaper, the school's science and training council met and agreed to adjust the regulations on exemption from English subjects. Students with IELTS certificates will be exempted according to their English proficiency."

Currently, many students and parents are still wondering if they can be exempted from the equivalent level if they submit their IELTS certificate to the school, or will it still be based on the results of the entrance test at the beginning of the school year? If they are exempted from English classes, will the school refund their tuition fees?

Responding to this, Mr. Tuan affirmed that the school has no regulations on refusing international English certificates. Before starting to study English levels at the school, students need to submit international certificates so that the school's scientific and training council can consider exempting them from studying the corresponding English level.

"Students need to submit English certificates as announced by the school so that the school can consider exempting them from the levels corresponding to the students' English proficiency. Students who are exempted from the level will be exempted from tuition fees for that level.

If any students or parents still have questions about the issue of exemption from English courses at the school, they need to meet directly with the school leaders to resolve the issue to ensure their rights," said Mr. Tuan.
