Successful trial planting of Korean grape variety

On an area of 2,400 ^m2 rented in Cau Gao village, Van Mon commune, in 2023, Mr. Tran Van Ton prepared the land, invested more than 700 million VND to build infrastructure including greenhouses and frames for each grape plant. After that, he ordered 270 milk grape plants directly from Korea for planting, he actively participated in grape growing associations and groups to accumulate more knowledge; carefully taking care of each plant every day.

In the summer, on hot days, he uses a cooling spray system from above to maintain the appropriate humidity for plant growth. Every day, he monitors the plant's performance to adjust nutrition, fertilizer, and irrigation water. With the goal of ensuring maximum food safety, he applies organic fertilization methods and manually kills weeds instead of using chemicals. At the same time, he collects cow, buffalo, and goat manure and uses biological products to compost it into organic fertilizer for the roots.

The most difficult part of growing milk grapes is the technique of pruning flowers for fruiting. Normally, the grape flower clusters are quite long, so you have to skillfully cut off 2/3 of the flower stems to concentrate nutrients on the remaining part. From March 2025, he started hiring people to cut branches and prune flowers. After that, each bunch of grapes is wrapped to avoid the invasion of insects, limiting the need to use additional chemicals. With meticulous care, the fruiting rate is quite high, with each tree having 20 bunches and each bunch weighing from 0.4 - 0.7 kg. More importantly, the quality of the grapes is almost the same as the variety grown in Korea, with a rich sweet taste, eating the skin without astringency, and a low seed ratio in the fruit...

Since mid-July, the model has started to yield nearly 2 tons of fruit, generating revenue of about 700 million VND, and Mr. Ton's farm has welcomed nearly 20 groups of visitors. Currently, Mr. Ton is implementing procedures to register OCOP products to develop the brand, bringing grapes to stable supply points such as convenience stores, supermarkets, and collective kitchens.

According to Mr. Tran Xuan Dan, Deputy Director of the Center for Agricultural Extension and Development of High-tech Agriculture in Bac Ninh, Korean milk grapes are a valuable crop that is encouraged to be developed by the Department of Agriculture and Environment. In addition to researching and improving cultivation processes suitable for local soil conditions, establishments need to focus on building production models associated with eco-tourism and product experiences to attract customers. At the same time, improve the productivity and quality of crop varieties through the application of high technology, ensuring food safety and hygiene.
