The Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe water treatment plant is expected to be completed in June 2025. This is also the largest wastewater treatment plant in Southeast Asia, with advanced technology.

The factory has a designed capacity of 480,000m3/day and night with a maximum flow rate of 34,000 m3/h; applying MBBR (mMving Bed Biofilm Reactor) biological treatment technology, using mobile media for microorganisms to adhere and develop to remove organic substances in wastewater.

Waste water after being treated to ensure environmental hygiene requirements will be discharged into Saigon River.

Currently, the total capacity of urban domestic wastewater treatment in Ho Chi Minh City is 644,000 m3/day and night, only reaching about 40% of the daily wastewater volume. With the completion of the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe wastewater treatment plant, Ho Chi Minh City will increase its urban domestic wastewater treatment capacity to more than 1.1 million m3/day and night.

According to the investor, the project construction progress has reached about 41% of the contract value. Important items on the critical path (a combination of spreadsheets and charts illustrating the project progress) are being implemented; the main electromechanical equipment has been ordered and is expected to be delivered to the construction site from August this year.

It is expected that the project's flood control works will be completed before November 30; construction drawing design work will be completed before March 2, 2025; all electromechanical equipment will be brought to the construction site before April 29, 2025, and construction work will be completed before June 30, 2025.

The Ho Chi Minh City Environmental Sanitation Project (Phase 2) aims to complete the wastewater collection and treatment system for the entire Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe basin and District 2 (now Thu Duc City).

The project includes the following items: building a culvert with a diameter of 3,200mm and a length of 7.85km to transfer wastewater from the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe basin and Thu Duc City to the wastewater treatment plant construction area; building the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe wastewater treatment plant; building a secondary and tertiary system in the Thao Dien, Nam Thao Dien, Binh Trung Dong, Binh Trung Tay areas; improving urban embellishment and preserving the ecosystem of the Saigon River and the lower Dong Nai River.

The total investment capital of the project is about 524 million USD (more than 11,000 billion VND).

The XL-02 package alone is worth about 235 million USD (equivalent to nearly 6,000 billion VND) after international competitive bidding.
