The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 and 7 with 3 exams including Math, Literature and Foreign Language.
On February 6, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced detailed information about the 10th grade entrance exam and admission criteria for grade 6 in the 2025-2026 school year.
Specifically, the entrance exam for grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City's public schools will take place on June 6-7. Candidates will take the Math and Literature tests in 120 minutes and the Foreign Language (mainly English) in 90 minutes.
Candidates registering for the entrance exam to the city's specialized high schools must take the 4th subject (specialized subject) with a duration of 150 minutes/subject. Each specialized subject has its own exam according to the secondary school curriculum, the exam content ensures the selection of students with talent in that specialized subject.

For admission to grade 6, this year the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City uses the following admission method:
- Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School and some local secondary schools can conduct admission based on a combination of two criteria including training and learning results in primary school years and capacity assessment results. In particular, local secondary schools must simultaneously meet two requirements: Having a number of candidates registering exceeding the enrollment quota in recent years and being proposed by the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, wards and districts.
- The remaining secondary schools conduct admission based on the results of training and learning at the primary level and use data from GIS maps to serve the work of allocating students, in which the admission areas of the schools are decided by the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, districts and counties according to the actual situation in the locality.
Ho Chi Minh City is the first locality to finalize the schedule and plan for the 10th grade exam, after the Ministry of Education and Training issued regulations on secondary and high school admissions in early January 2025.
The Ministry clearly stipulates that the entrance exam for grade 10 includes two compulsory subjects: Math, Literature and a third subject (or a combined test). This subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, but no subject can be selected for more than three consecutive years. Provinces and cities can announce the third subject after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year.
The content of the 10th grade entrance exam is part of the general secondaryeducation program, mainly grade 9. The time for the Literature test is 120 minutes, Math 90, the third subject 60 or 90 minutes, the combined test 90 or 120 minutes.
