During the practice session on the evening of July 16, Thanh Nhan had an accident after landing unbalanced. The MRI scan on the morning of July 17 showed that he had damaged the ligaments in his left ankle, requiring treatment time and certainly not in time to compete.
This is the fourth time Thanh Nhan has missed important tournaments due to injury, after the 2023 Asian Cup, the 32nd SEA Games and the 2024 U23 Asian Cup finals. Coach Kim Sang-sik expressed regret but was forced to come up with an alternative plan. The chosen name is young midfielder Le Van Thuan of Thanh Hoa . The player of the Thanh team had participated in the preparation phase for this tournament but was eliminated in the final list.
Van Thuan was born in 2006 and grew up from Thanh Hoa training center. In the 2024/25 season, he played outstandingly in V.League with 4 goals and 2 assists after 16 matches. At the V.League Awards ceremony, this striker was awarded the title of Best Young Player of V.League 2024/25. Although he is a central midfielder, Van Thuan possesses diverse attacking abilities and was highly appreciated by coach Kim Sang-sik for his flexibility in playing style.
According to the plan, Le Van Thuan will be in Jakarta (Indonesia) on July 18 to join the U23 Vietnam team. The last-minute call-up opens up an opportunity for the 18-year-old midfielder to demonstrate his ability and contribute to the team at this year's regional tournament.
