According to CNBC on August 25, President Trump wrote to Governor Cook to inform her of his decision to remove her from office due to allegations of mortgage fraud. This decision is effective immediately.
"Given your fraudulent and potentially illegal financial conduct, the American people cannot, and I cannot, have confidence in your integrity. This, at a minimum, demonstrates serious negligence in your financial dealings and raises doubts about your competence and credibility," Mr. Trump wrote in a letter to Ms. Cook.

A spokesman for the US Federal Reserve did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Last week, Lisa Cook announced that she would not resign despite President Trump's request.
"I have no intention of resigning because of questions raised on social media. I take seriously any questions about my financial history as a Fed member. Therefore, I am gathering accurate information to answer all legitimate and truthful questions," Ms. Cook said.
Previously, the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Bill Pulte accused Ms. Cook of declaring her permanent residence as an apartment in Atlanta, despite having previously taken out a mortgage to buy a house in Michigan and confirming that it was her primary residence. "The FHFA has documents of Ms. Cook's mortgage fraud," Mr. Pulte emphasized.
