Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that she will not visit Ukraine, while affirming that she will maintain relations with countries that are not “confronted” with the North American country.

Russian news agency TASS reported that on September 17, President-elect Sheinbaum declined an invitation from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit the Eastern European country to better understand the impacts of the ongoing conflict there.
Speaking at a press conference the same day, Ms. Sheinbaum stated that, based on the principles of the Constitution, Mexico's foreign policy does not allow this country to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.
"The foundation of our foreign policy is the principle of seeking peaceful solutions to conflicts. This is our policy and it will always be," she said.
The Mexican president-elect has also shown a view that prioritizes domestic policy over foreign policy, similar to outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Mr. Obrador has only traveled abroad seven times in his six years in office, including five to the United States, one to Central America, and one to South America.
Ms Sheinbaum's main task is to "run Mexico", only attending a few international events that the country values and "won't travel much".
President-elect Sheinbaum's statement came after the Ukrainian President gave an interview to Mexico's Excélsior newspaper, in which he expressed his wish for President Obrador to visit Ukraine.
Mr. Zelensky also sent a similar message to Ms. Sheinbaum, and affirmed that he would send a senior official to attend the female leader's inauguration, scheduled for October 1, if the official visit took place.
Regarding the Ukraine conflict, on the same day, Estonian President Alar Karis told the country's public television station ERR that the West is increasingly tired of the conflict in Ukraine, which has now entered its third year.
"Those on the front lines are tired, as are those on the home front and those who feel the conflict in Ukraine is far away," said President Karis.
According to the leader, it makes no sense to push forward peace talks between Kiev and Moscow at this point because Western support for Ukraine is not enough to allow it to negotiate ceasefire terms from a position of strength.
