Domestic market on June 17, 2025
Based on current factors, pepper prices are likely to remain stable or decrease slightly by about VND500-1,000/kg tomorrow. This is especially true if there is no increase in export demand from businesses.
There are three main reasons for the difficulty in recovering pepper prices in the short term:
Float psychology: Many dealers and farmers are tending to dump their goods to avoid further losses as prices continue to fall.
Export situation is gloomy: Although export prices have not changed much, the number of new orders has not increased, showing that purchasing power remains weak.
Exchange rate fluctuations: The slight increase in the USD/VND exchange rate makes export enterprises more cautious in signing contracts due to the risk of payment differences.
Pepper prices are expected to fluctuate between 136,000 - 138,000 VND/kg if there are no surprises from the international market.
International market on June 17, 2025
In the international market, Vietnam’s pepper exports are facing difficulties, with export volume down more than 18% this year. Competitors such as Indonesia and India are increasing their market share, especially in the US, where Vietnam previously dominated with 60% of orders.
In addition, Vietnamese enterprises also have to face:
High logistics costs: Rising shipping costs are affecting competitiveness.
Strict quality standards: Quality requirements from the EU and Japan are becoming increasingly stringent.
Lack of long-term strategy: Not having a clear plan for traceability can reduce export opportunities.
Without timely adjustments in strategy and investment in deep processing, the Vietnamese pepper industry will face many challenges in the context of increasingly fierce global competition.
