Vietnam’s coffee export prices have recently surged due to tight global supplies. While this has helped export volumes hit record highs, Vietnam faces the challenge of losing market share in some key markets.
A typical example is the Korean market. Data from Korean customs shows that in the first 5 months of 2025, the country's total coffee imports reached 88,129 tons, up 4.1% over the same period last year. Korea imports coffee from 48 countries and territories, of which Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Ethiopia and the US are the main suppliers. Notably, while Korea increased imports from Brazil, imports from Vietnam tended to decrease.
Specifically, Vietnam remained the second largest coffee supplier to South Korea during this period, with 18,100 tons, worth 86.4 million USD. Compared to the first 5 months of 2024, the import volume from Vietnam decreased by 3.9% but the value increased sharply by 54.8%. However, Vietnam's coffee market share in South Korea's total import volume decreased from 22.25% in the first 5 months of 2024 to 20.53% in the first 5 months of 2025. This shows that despite the high export value thanks to good selling prices, Vietnam needs to have strategies to maintain and expand its market share in the context of fierce market competition.

Similarly, at the New York exchange, Arabica coffee prices tended to decrease in today's trading session, specifically:
September 2025 futures fell 3.85 cents/lb (-1.25%), to 303.35 cents/lb.

May 2026 futures fell 2.10 cents/lb (-0.74%) to 282.70 cents/lb.
The sharp decline in global coffee prices was mainly due to strong profit-taking on both exchanges. After several consecutive sessions of increases due to concerns about supply shortages, the market has shown signs of being “overbought” in the short term. Along with that, reports showing that the coffee harvest progress in Brazil and Vietnam is gradually improving, causing market sentiment to slow down.
