(Bqp.vn) - On the morning of March 27, at the Ministry of National Defense Headquarters, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defense, received Major General Leang Sovannara, Cambodian Military Attaché in Vietnam.

At the reception, on behalf of the leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien congratulated Major General Leang Sovannara on his appointment as Cambodian Military Attaché in Vietnam. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that Vietnam and Cambodia are two close neighboring countries with a traditional relationship of solidarity and friendship; since the official establishment of diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967), the relationship between the two countries has been continuously strengthened and developed, bringing practical benefits to both countries.
Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his satisfaction with the results of Vietnam - Cambodia defense cooperation in recent times, notably in areas such as: Exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations; border management and protection; propaganda on the solidarity relationship between the two countries; searching for, collecting, and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia. Notably, in December 2023, the two countries' Defense Ministries, together with the Lao Defense Ministry, successfully organized the first Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien hopes that in the coming time, the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation in training; overcoming the consequences of bombs and mines; United Nations peacekeeping; supporting each other in multilateral forums; effectively implementing a number of key cooperation contents between the two sides such as: Exchange of delegations and cooperation mechanisms; border management and protection; Search, collect, and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia; summarize the implementation of the Protocol on defense cooperation between the two Ministries of Defense for the 2020-2024 period and develop the Protocol for the 2025-2029 period.
On this occasion, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien sent his best wishes for Cambodia's traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year; he believed that during his term, Major General Leang Sovannara would promote the achievements of his predecessor and have new initiatives to further promote the development of defense cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Major General Leang Sovannara thanked Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien for taking the time to meet him; expressed his agreement with Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien's assessment of the results of bilateral defense cooperation in recent times; and affirmed that, based on the contents agreed upon by the leaders of the two countries' Defense Ministries, in his position, he will continue to closely coordinate with agencies and units of the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense to promote defense cooperation between the two countries to further develop in the coming time.
