On the afternoon of November 20, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Romanian Minister of Economy, Enterprise and Tourism Stefan-Radu Oprea, who is visiting, working and attending the 17th meeting of the Vietnam-Romania Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation in Vietnam.
Welcoming Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea back to Vietnam, the Prime Minister thanked and appreciated Romania, in its role as rotating President of the European Union (EU) in 2019, for its great support in promoting the completion of negotiations and signing of the Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).
The Prime Minister thanked Romania for donating 300,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam in 2021 and for creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to stabilize their lives and do business long-term in Romania.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea were pleased to see that the Vietnam-Romania bilateral relationship is developing well in many aspects of politics, diplomacy, economy, labor, education and training, culture, etc. In particular, the two-way trade turnover in 2022 reached 425 million USD, an increase of 14.8% compared to 2021, but not commensurate with the potential and relations of the two countries, especially in the fields of economy, trade and investment.
Regarding the situation in Vietnam, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam pursues an independent, self-reliant, diversified, and multilateral foreign policy; is a good friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community; has a “four no’s” defense policy; builds an independent, self-reliant economy, and actively integrates deeply, practically, and effectively into the international community. Vietnam always attaches importance to and prioritizes its traditional friendship with Romania.
In the coming time, along with increasing the exchange of delegations at all levels, through all channels of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people-to-people exchanges, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides need to identify economic - investment - trade cooperation as an important pillar in bilateral relations.
The two sides need to effectively utilize the EVFTA Agreement, open the market for each other's goods; increase the exchange of business delegations, attract investment in areas where Vietnam has demand and Romania has strengths such as mechanics, specialized machinery, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, automobile manufacturing industry, renewable energy, mining, petrochemical refining... The Prime Minister suggested that Romania open the market for Vietnamese goods, especially agricultural and aquatic products such as shrimp, fish, coffee, fruits...
The Head of the Vietnamese Government suggested that Romania mobilize other EU member countries to soon ratify the EVIPA Agreement; urge the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the “yellow card” (IUU) warning for Vietnamese seafood products; promote cooperation in the field of green transformation, circular economy development and climate change response; strengthen cooperation in the fields of labor, employment, education - training, culture, and tourism; continue to create favorable conditions and protect the legitimate rights of Vietnamese workers working in Romania.
Romanian Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Stefan-Radu Oprea thanked the Prime Minister for taking the time to receive the delegation. Reviewing the negotiation and signing process of EVFTA and EVIPA, Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea expressed his pride in contributing to that process; stating that Romania wishes to work with Vietnam to realize these Agreements.
Agreeing with the proposals of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the Minister of Economy, Business and Tourism of Romania said that during this working trip to Vietnam, the Romanian delegation has the participation of a number of industries and businesses; wishing to seek cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of oil and gas, agriculture, information technology, pharmaceutical industry, tourism, etc. to realize the agreements and commitments between Vietnam and the EU and Romania; saying that Romania is ready to be the gateway for Vietnamese goods to enter Europe.
On this occasion, through Minister Stefan-Radu Oprea, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent to the Romanian Prime Minister wishes for good health, success and continued contributions to the common development of the two countries.
