Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the Turkish Minister of Trade to consider early initiation of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries.

The Turkish Minister of Trade affirmed that Vietnam is the country's top priority economic partner in the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Omer Bolat said that after initial successful investment projects, more and more Turkish corporations and enterprises are interested in the Vietnamese market, especially in the country's strengths such as construction, industrial production, consumer goods, etc. It is expected that Turkish business delegations will visit Vietnam to explore investment and cooperation opportunities in 2024.

Vietnam and Türkiye established diplomatic relations on June 7, 1978, and the two countries have maintained friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation. Türkiye is one of Vietnam's leading trade partners in the Middle East and a gateway for Vietnam to export to the Middle East and Southern European markets. Bilateral trade turnover in 2022 reached more than 2 billion USD, of which Vietnam exported 1.6 billion USD.

As of October, Türkiye had 36 valid investment projects with a total registered capital of 974.3 million USD, ranking 26th out of 143 countries and territories with investment projects in Vietnam. In August, IC Ictas, a member of Turkey's IC Holdings Group, led the Vietur Joint Venture to win the bid for the construction and installation of passenger terminal equipment worth 35,000 billion VND for the Long Thanh airport project.

To date, Vietnam has signed 17 bilateral and multilateral trade and free trade agreements.
