Posting a photo of the Kremlin on Twitter with the caption "Official visit to the Russian Federation from June 6-17", Mr. Cruz announced: "We are coming to Russia... to expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation, which has been maintained continuously since 1960".
Cuban Ambassador to Russia Julio Antonio Garmendia Pena said that the head of the Cuban government will attend the Council of Heads of Government of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in Sochi on June 7-9 and the St. Petersburg Conference of the International Economic Forum.
Earlier, TASS quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry's announcement that Deputy Minister Sergey Ryabkov and his Cuban counterpart Gerardo Penalver Portal had discussed on June 5.
According to the ministry's announcement, the parties expressed "willingness to move forward together on the path of building a multipolar world based on equality and mutual respect, as well as strictly adhering to the norms and principles of international law."
The diplomats also discussed top priority issues on the bilateral agenda as well as key issues on the international and regional agenda, reiterating their common commitment to further strengthening Russian-Cuban cooperation in various areas in the spirit of strategic partnership.
The two deputy ministers affirmed the countries' firm stance on the impossibility of applying unilateral sanctions that are not based on the United Nations Charter.
Russia reiterated its support for Cuba in demanding that the United States immediately end its trade, economic and financial blockade.
