More than a hundred local groups and communities took part in the 'Painting My City' project. Each group created a giant canvas painting that expressed their views and feelings for the city.
The trend of implementing community art projects is pursued by many people, including artists. Projects connect people and bring good values to the community. There, they do art not for economic purposes but to bring spiritual food to art lovers, bring art back to its true emotional value and, more importantly, contribute to the community.
Community art can take many different forms, from murals, public sculptures, collaborative art projects, cultural events or performance art... What these community art projects have in common is the participation of many parties, at least organizers, artists and people. For example, in Lyon (France), for over 40 years a group of muralists have turned the city into an outdoor art gallery. Giant murals are painted in the Trompe-l'œil style (visual trick painting technique) on many large building walls. The paintings depict historical events, famous people or symbols of everyday life. To date, Lyon owns more than 150 murals.
