New information "throws cold water" on iPhone lovers

(Dan Tri) - iPhone 17 is expected to have an upgrade in screen refresh rate, but lacks an important screen technology.

Fixed Focus Digital, a Weibo account known for its accurate iPhone leaks, has just revealed that the iPhone 17 will be equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate screen. This information is cited from internal sources of Apple's manufacturing partners.

This is a significant upgrade over the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, which only have 60Hz screens. Currently, 120Hz technology only appears on high-end versions like the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

Higher refresh rate screens promise a smoother, more responsive experience in every user action.

Apple is expected to launch four variants of the iPhone 17 series, with the standard iPhone 17 version receiving the least investment (Photo: X).

However, Fixed Focus Digital quickly "poured cold water" when it confirmed that the iPhone 17 will not have ProMotion technology integrated, despite having a 120Hz screen.

ProMotion, a technology that debuted on the 2017 iPad Pro and has been available on the iPhone since the 13 Pro (2021) series, allows the screen to automatically adjust the refresh rate.

This technology helps to flexibly change the scanning frequency from 10Hz to 120Hz depending on the displayed content and task, optimizing energy consumption and extending battery life.

If the leaked information is accurate, the iPhone 17's use of a fixed 120Hz display instead of a variable one will significantly affect the device's battery life.

This decision by Apple is considered quite conservative, in the context that many mid-range Android smartphones today have integrated variable refresh rate screens.

This move shows that Apple still wants to retain exclusive premium features for the Pro versions, to differentiate and encourage users to upgrade.

Previously, many sources also revealed that the iPhone 17 will not have many significant configuration upgrades, as it still uses the A18 chip (similar to the iPhone 16) and 8GB RAM.

If the leaked information is correct, it seems that Apple does not have high expectations for the standard iPhone 17, but considers it a stepping stone to encourage users to switch to higher-end versions such as the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air or the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max duo.

According to Apple's annual product launch cycle, the iPhone 17 series is expected to be officially launched next September, if there are no geopolitical factors affecting it.
