Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made the announcement after a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan on October 22.

On Telegram, President Zelensky said that the two sides discussed the Ukraine peace conference, scheduled to take place in Malta next week. Accordingly, Ankara will participate to give its opinion and stance on this issue.

Malta has announced that it will host a new peace conference on Ukraine on October 28 and 29, following similar meetings in Saudi Arabia and Denmark earlier this year. Russia is expected to skip the conference again.

Since the conflict began, Türkiye has played a mediating role between Russia and Ukraine, helping to reach a Black Sea grain deal last year. After that deal collapsed, Ankara continued to try to negotiate with both Kiev and Moscow to revive the deal.
