On July 7, Gunma Green Wings Club announced that player Tran Thi Thanh Thuy will be part of the team participating in the Japan National Volleyball Championship (V.League) in the 2025-2026 season.
The captain of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is one of three new faces registered by the Gunma Green Wings Club as foreign players, along with Olivia Rozanski (Polish nationality) and Nasya Dimitrova (Bulgaria).
The two clubs Gunma Green Wings and VTV Binh Dien Long An have not yet signed a transfer contract. However, with the successful registration of Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and two European foreign players, Gunma Green Wings welcoming Thanh Thuy back to compete in Japan is only a matter of time.
Coach Masayasu Sakamoto may have had a big influence on Gunma Green Wings recruiting Thanh Thuy, because he worked with her when he led PFU Blue Cats in the 2023-2024 season, so he understands her ability and highly appreciates this 1997-born player. He chose Thanh Thuy as an Asian foreign player in the Gunma Green Wings club this season after witnessing her Vietnamese student play extremely well at the AVC Nations Cup and most recently the VTV Cup.
If all goes well, Thanh Thuy will join the Gunma Green Wings in September after participating in the 2025 World Championship, taking place in Thailand at the end of August, in the Vietnamese national team jersey. Thanh Thuy and a number of key athletes are actively recuperating to prepare for the 2 SEA V-League stages and then continue to participate in the World Championship.

For the 7th time in her career, Thanh Thuy has played for a foreign team in very strong tournaments around the world, from Bangkok Glass VC (Thailand), Attack Line (Chinese Taipei), Denso Airybees, PFU BlueCats (Japan), Kuzeyboru (Türkiye) to Gresik Petrokimia (Indonesia). Many fans wish Thanh Thuy good luck in this trip abroad, shaking off the sadness from the 2 times she played for Kuzeyboru and Gresik Petrokimia for only a few months due to injury.
Gunma Green Wings were promoted last year and due to a lack of a strong squad, their performance in the V.League after promotion was not very positive. That is the reason why the team's management supported Coach Sakamoto to recruit quality foreign players who have fought in Europe, including Thanh Thuy - an athlete who is highly appreciated in Asia.
After a period of injury, Thanh Thuy has truly returned with impressive form since the beginning of 2025. She and VTV Binh Dien Long An finished second in the first leg of the National Volleyball Championship, and together with the Vietnamese team won the AVC Nations Cup and won a ticket to the World Championship. At VTV Cup 2025, the Vietnamese women's team finished as runners-up.
It is not clear how much salary Thanh Thuy will receive in Japan this time, but her chance to officially compete at Gunma Green Wings is certainly very high.
