Mr. Charoen Laothamatas, President of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, stated that rice exports in November 2023 reached 1.007 million tons, worth 23.01 billion baht (657.6 million USD), up 19.9% and 23.3% respectively compared to October.

Rice exports in November 2023 increased mainly in polished and fragrant rice varieties as importers sought to replenish declining inventories amid global rice prices hitting a 15-year high. Polished rice exports in November 2023 reached 659,694 tonnes, up 31% from October. Major markets for Thai polished rice included Indonesia, the Philippines, Algeria, Iraq, Malaysia, Japan, Brazil and Cameroon. In contrast, parboiled rice exports in November 2023 were 91,303 tonnes, down 11.2% from October.

The association estimates that about 800,000 to 900,000 tonnes of rice were exported in December 2023 and is optimistic that Thailand will exceed its initial export target of 8.5 million tonnes of rice for 2023.
