After 7 years of implementing the removal of the "yellow card" warning from the European Commission (EC), the fight against IUU fishing has achieved some remarkable results. The total number of fishing vessels nationwide reached 84,752, the number of fishing vessels from 15m and above installed with voyage monitoring equipment (VMS) reached 98.6%; the number of fishing vessels marked reached 98%. Fishing vessels that are not qualified to operate, fishing vessels at high risk of violating IUU fishing have been listed, monitored and managed by localities. The monitoring and supervision of fishing vessel activities at sea through the fishing vessel monitoring system, port entry and exit, and port entry and exit in some localities has been seriously and fully implemented according to regulations. The investigation, verification and handling of IUU fishing violations have been strengthened compared to before, especially the handling of violations of disconnecting VMS and illegal fishing in foreign waters. Of which, from the beginning of 2024 until now, 3,387 cases have been fined with a total amount of over 75 billion VND...

For Thai Binh province, to combat IUU fishing, the authorities have increased patrols, inspections and controls at fishing ports and at sea, detected, completed records and administratively sanctioned 40 cases/40 subjects, with a fine of over 587 million VND. Violations: 5 fishing vessels violated VMS and lost connection; 9 fishing vessels operated in the wrong area, the rest were acts of using and storing electric shock tools, not re-registering, not having certificates as prescribed, violating port docking and fishing logs.

Comrade Nguyen Quang Hung, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee attended the conference at Thai Binh bridge.

To ensure the best results in the 5th inspection by the EC, determined to achieve the goal of removing the "yellow card" warning in 2024, in his concluding remarks at the conference, Comrade Tran Hong Ha, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister requested relevant ministries, branches and localities to continue to make drastic efforts to implement the synchronous solutions that have been and are being implemented to combat IUU fishing. Relevant agencies, especially leaders, and the entire political system, must continue to seriously implement the instructions of the Secretariat, the Government and the Prime Minister on combating IUU fishing, which are to closely monitor and manage fleets, not to violate IUU fishing, and to thoroughly handle "3 no" fishing vessels; review, classify and strictly handle individuals and groups that violate, with the view that administrative violations will be handled administratively and criminal violations will be handled criminally. Continue to promote domestic and international communication and propaganda on the results of the implementation of the fight against IUU fishing; ensure that positive aspects are spread, mobilize diplomacy, and seek support from countries, organizations, and individuals in removing the "yellow card" warning for Vietnam. Propagate and disseminate legal regulations against IUU fishing to people and relevant parties to promptly update information and comply with implementation. Departments, ministries, branches, and localities carefully prepare programs, contents, and plans for working with the 5th EC Inspection Delegation; carefully prepare the best security measures, and avoid being passive or surprised, affecting the country's efforts to remove the "yellow card" warning.
