“There seems to be a certain connection between snakes and humans, which is reminiscent of Northern Shamanism in historical times, when snakes had a special role as spiritual support animals for shamans and spiritual masters,” said Dr. Antti Lahelma from the University of Helsinki. The researchers also stressed that the prehistoric site of Järvensuo 1 is under threat, as drainage works and environmental changes caused by climate change are putting the site at risk. Signs of damage caused by the extensive drainage system are already evident at the site, and the organic archaeological treasures there are no longer safe. Photo: @Finnish Heritage Agency.
