Billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao's assets reach their highest level ever

(Dan Tri) - Since the beginning of the year, billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao has added nearly 1 billion USD thanks to the sharp increase in HDBank and Vietjet Air shares.

According to an update from Forbes this afternoon (August 21), billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao's assets reached 3.7 billion USD, a slight increase compared to yesterday and the highest level ever.

In the past, Ms. Thao's assets reached a peak of 3.1 billion USD in 2018 and 2022. In the intervening years, the figure stopped at just over 2 billion USD. By the end of 2024, Forbes recorded it at 2.8 billion USD.

Thus, in just about 8 months this year, this self-made billionaire has added nearly 1 billion USD. Ms. Thao's assets have increased strongly in the context of increasing shares of HDB ( HDBank ) and VJC (Vietjet Air) - where she is a leader.

Since the beginning of the year, HDB shares have increased by 26% to VND33,250/unit - the highest in 3 years. Meanwhile, VJC shares have suddenly skyrocketed in the past month, to VND145,800/unit, also the highest in 3 years and up 47% since the beginning of the year.

The rapidly increasing assets have consolidated Ms. Thao's position as the second richest person in Vietnam, after Vingroup Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong. Compared to the world, Ms. Thao ranks 1,044.

Forbes also recorded Mr. Vuong's assets at 12.8 billion USD, an increase of half a billion USD compared to yesterday, in the context of the "Vingroup family" stocks simultaneously increasing in price. In terms of position, Mr. Vuong ranked 213th on the world's USD billionaires ranking.

The stock market has been increasing strongly in recent times. The VN-Index closed the session on August 21 at 1,688 points, up nearly 24 points compared to yesterday. Banking stocks led the market's increase, with many stocks hitting the ceiling such as OCB, SSB, VIB, STB, TPB, MSB.

Foreign investors continued to net sell more than 2,346 billion VND today, with codes such as HPG, CTG, GEX, KDH, NLG. On the contrary, they net bought SSI, BID, VHM, VND...
