The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned consumers about certain brands of charcuterie sold at Costco and Sam's Club supermarkets.

Accordingly, in an announcement on January 18 (local time), the US CDC recommends that consumers throw away all packages of Antipasto Gran charcuterie bacon by Fratelli Beretta purchased from Costco supermarkets and similar products of the Charcuterie Sampler brand by Busseto manufacturer purchased at Sam's Club stores - part of the Walmart supermarket chain.

"After being notified of the recall, we worked with our supplier to recall the lot under the assigned code, removing this product from our stores," a Sam's Club spokesperson said.

The CDC's latest warning comes after a Jan. 5 warning about using a Charcuterie Sampler brand of meat from a lot that was recalled earlier in the year.

Costco said in a letter to members who purchased meat from Fratelli Beretta on Jan. 19 that the brand had voluntarily issued a recall of charcuterie meat due to possible salmonella contamination. The recall includes all meat products with a best before date of June 13, the company said in a letter to Costco members.

CDC investigators are working to determine if any additional products may be contaminated.

According to the US CDC, as of January 18, 47 cases of Salmonella infection have been recorded in 22 states. Of these, Ohio has the highest number of salmonella infections. Most people infected with Salmonella have symptoms of diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. So far, 10 people have been hospitalized due to the outbreak in many states.
