Samsung Display has been selected as the main supplier of OLED panels for future iPad Air models, according to a report by The Elec.

It is known that Samsung previously provided Apple with OLED panels for the new iPad Pro M4, which has a parallel design to improve brightness and power efficiency. And recent information said that Apple plans to bring OLED panels to the iPad Air and iPad mini in 2026.

Samsung has surpassed LG to become the main supplier because: Samsung Display's A3 line has a production capacity of 135,000 units/month, while LG Display's E6-1~3 line (producing OLED for iPhone) has a capacity of only 45,000 units/month and E6-4 line (producing OLED for iPad) has a capacity of 15,000 units/month.

Sources say that the iPad Air and iPad mini will soon use OLED panels, Omdia company believes that the iPad Air 2026 will have OLED panels and the iPad mini will use this technology in 2027. Meanwhile, ET News said that both lines will be equipped with OLED screens in 2026.

In addition, the iPad Air OLED is expected to keep the 11-inch screen while the iPad mini screen may increase from 8.3 inches to 8.7 inches.

The iPad Air and iPadmini are expected to have a single-layer LTPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon) display, which means the display could be dimmer and lack the Pro Motion technology found on the new iPad Pro (which uses a dual-layer LTPO OLED panel), which would make it cheaper to produce.

Industry sources speculate that Apple will prioritize working with Samsung, which can reliably produce large quantities of stacked OLED panels, as it needs to boost sales of the iPad Air OLED. Samsung was also said to have developed an 8-inch OLED panel for a future iPad mini last month, with plans to start mass production at its Cheonan facility in the second half of 2025.
