During the final exam session of the 2025 high school graduation exam on the morning of June 27, the image of a boy holding an umbrella waiting for his sister in front of the exam site at Giong Ong To High School, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City attracted the attention of many people.

While the candidates were taking the exam, the boy kept walking back and forth in front of the school gate, his eyes constantly looking towards the exam rooms.

Every now and then, the boy would hold up a piece of cardboard with his sister’s picture on it and say loudly: “Trang! Calm down and do your test, Trang! Calm down and you’ll get 10 points.” Even though Trang couldn’t hear the cheers from outside the gate.

While waiting for his sister to take the exam, the boy also went to the place where the students were helping with the exam season to drink some cool water and chat. Many volunteer students here kept taking pictures with the boy when they heard how cute he was talking.

The boy's name is Le Phuong Duy, a third grader at Nguyen Ba Ngoc Primary School in Binh Thanh District. In recent days, Duy has been accompanying his mother to take his older sister, Le Phuong Trang, a student at Thu Thiem High School, to take her high school graduation exam.

While his sister was taking the exam, Duy and his mother would wait in front of the school gate. His mother would wait in a coffee shop, while Duy would constantly stand in front of the school gate to encourage and welcome his sister as soon as class ended.

The third grade boy laughed and said nonstop: “At home, my second sister and I always fight like cats and dogs. We argue and fight over everything we eat and play. But that’s it, we love each other very much. When my sister goes to take the exam, I love her very much and hope she does well on the exam.”

The exam was over, when the school gate opened and the students inside came out, little Duy kept shouting loudly: “Trang! Trang! Come out quickly, Trang!”

When he saw his sister coming out, the boy happily said: "Big sister, it's me!" Then Duy took the umbrella and pushed through the crowd to go towards his sister.

While his sister was engrossed in discussing the exam with her friends, not paying attention to her younger brother, Duy was still following behind, reaching out to hold an umbrella to shield her from the sun.

After showing off her good test results, the older sister who had just finished her exam hugged her younger brother and said with a smile: “This afternoon, tell mom to go out for a nice meal, promise not to fight over it.” Then the two sisters walked hand in hand towards their waiting mother…

Around there, at this time, there are also scenes of many families "reuniting" after many students finished their final exams in the 2025 high school graduation exam. It is the image of a father holding his son's hand tightly, or a mother hugging and continuously kissing her daughter...

The high school graduation exam with many innovations is becoming easier for candidates and their relatives. Instead of the heaviness, pressure or tears after each exam, now many candidates and relatives can welcome each other with laughter, handshakes, kisses or make a date to have a delicious meal...

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training , this year, the whole country has 1,137,183 candidates registered to take the exam under the 2018 General Education program and 24,951 candidates under the 2006 General Education program.

This year's exam has reduced some of the pressure on candidates by reducing the number of subjects and sessions. The exam has reduced the number of sessions from 4 sessions like previous years to 3 sessions.

Instead of taking 6 subjects as before, the number of subjects is reduced to 4, of which math and literature are compulsory. 2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12 include foreign languages, history, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economic and legal education, information technology, and technology.

An important new point in this year's high school graduation exam is that the exam score only accounts for 50%, the remaining 50% is taken from the results of 3 years of high school.

This change is in line with the 2018 GeneralEducation Program, which emphasizes developing students’ abilities and qualities throughout the learning process. In addition, it also significantly reduces pressure on each candidate as they can proactively prepare throughout the learning process instead of “relying” on one exam.
