Quelling rumors, choosing to stay at Al Nassr
After missing the Club World Cup and hinting at a possible departure from Al Nassr with a cryptic social media post after the final match of the season against Al-Fateh, Cristiano Ronaldo's future became a hot topic.
Many clubs have been linked, from Al Hilal, Raja Casablanca, Monterrey to even Real Madrid.
However, with the new contract just announced, Ronaldo has put all speculation to rest. “A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let’s write history together,” CR7 wrote on social media.
The move also confirms the influence of sporting director Fernando Hierro, who is said to have played a key role in the negotiations, despite rumours of a strained relationship between Ronaldo and coach Stefano Pioli, who has just left the hot seat at Al Nassr.
RONALDO'S GOALS BY CLUB AND COUNTRY
(As of June 2025 – total 938 goals)
Sporting Lisbon: 5 goals / 31 matches (2002–2003)
Manchester United: 145 goals / 346 matches (2003–2009; 2021–2022)
Real Madrid: 450 goals / 438 matches (2009–2018)
Juventus: 101 goals / 134 matches (2018–2021)
Al Nassr: 76 goals / 89 matches (2023 to present)
Portugal national team: 161 goals / 208 matches (2003 to present)
Total: 938 goals in over 1,200 professional games
Ronaldo is now the world's all-time leading scorer at the national team level and is on track to reach the 1,000-goal mark – an unprecedented feat.
At 40, still a goal machine
Last season, Ronaldo continued to assert his class with 25 goals in the Saudi Pro League and a total of 35 goals in all competitions.
With that performance, he not only won the Golden Boot award but also reached 938 goals in his career.
Many people believe that if he continues to maintain his form, CR7 can completely surpass the 1,000-goal mark in official matches, an unprecedented achievement in football history.
Ronaldo's choice to stay at Al Nassr is not only a sporting one but also shows his commitment to the football development project in Saudi Arabia, which is attracting more and more top stars.
Ronaldo himself thanked Pioli in Italian: “Grazie per tutti!” (Thanks for everything!), showing his professional attitude and leadership role in the dressing room.
Al Nassr are currently looking for a new coach, with Jorge Jesus one of the potential candidates. Meanwhile, arch-rivals Al Hilal have successfully recruited coach Simone Inzaghi - who recently led Inter Milan to the Champions League final.
Aiming for the ultimate dream: World Cup 2026
Despite turning 40, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down. His next target is none other than the 2026 World Cup, which could be his last time playing for Portugal at a major tournament.
In early June, Ronaldo won the Nations League title for the second time in his career, taking his total number of national team titles to three. However, what CR7 craves even more is the World Cup trophy, a title that his great rival Lionel Messi won in Qatar 2022.
Signing a new contract at the age of 40, Cristiano Ronaldo not only continues his journey to the top but also shows that his ambition has never been exhausted, with Al Nassr, with Saudi Arabian football and with the history of the king sport.
