The Club World Cup offers greater financial opportunities thanks to its expanded format and high prize money from FIFA. |
This comes from a €32.8m entry fee – the highest among the 32 teams – plus €11.28m in bonuses for reaching the round of 16 and €10.75m from group stage matches.
According to The Athletic , FIFA's decision to award Real Madrid a high entry fee reflects the club's status and appeal, as they enter the tournament as 2024 UEFA Champions League champions. Behind Real Madrid are Bayern Munich with 48.97 million euros and PSG with 48.37 million euros, both of whom also reached the quarter-finals but did not surpass the 50 million euro mark in prize money.
Borussia Dortmund finished fourth with €45.43m, while Manchester City, with €42.51m, failed to add to their revenue after being eliminated by Al-Hilal in the round of 16. Before the round of 16, Manchester City had been the competition's revenue leader thanks to a perfect record of three wins.
Yet, so far, the eight quarter-finalists – five European teams (Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea), two Brazilian teams (Fluminense, Palmeiras), and one Saudi Arabian team (Al-Hilal) – dominate the entire top 10 of the revenue rankings.
Fluminense and Palmeiras are sixth and seventh, each with €34.26m, thanks to impressive performances in the group stage and round of 16. Chelsea, with a 4-1 win over Benfica, are eighth with €32.77m.
Al-Hilal, the phenomenon of the tournament, are next with €29.39m. If Real Madrid continue to go further, overcoming Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals and winning the 2025 Club World Cup, they could reach a total revenue of €132.99m. That is a huge number.
