Attending the program, on the Vietnamese side were Ms. Ngo Phuong Ly, wife of General Secretary To Lam; Mr. Le Hai Binh, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Ngo Le Van, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs ; Mr. Dang Minh Khoi, Ambassador of Vietnam to Russia. On the Russian side, there were Mr. Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg City and representatives of the leaders of the agencies under St. Petersburg City.
According to the decree of the Governor of St. Petersburg, the square at 15, "Enlightenment" Avenue, Vyborg district is named Ho Chi Minh Square - the great leader of the Vietnamese revolution, also the name of the twin city of St. Petersburg. The square is located next to Ho Chi Minh Street, named since 1978. In the square there is a statue of Ho Chi Minh, inaugurated in 2023 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Uncle Ho's first visit to Russia.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi emphasized the significance of the square in Russia being named after the first President of Vietnam. Expressing deep gratitude to the St. Petersburg City Government, Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi affirmed that this event is a practical activity to promote the Vietnam-Russia friendship as agreed between General Secretary To Lam and President Putin.
With the event honoring President Ho Chi Minh in Russia on the occasion of his 135th birthday, Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi believes that generations of people of the two countries, especially the young generation, will continuously consolidate and further strengthen the Vietnam-Russia cooperative relationship as expected by President Ho Chi Minh during his lifetime.
Speaking on behalf of Russia at the event, Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov emphasized that President Ho Chi Minh was an outstanding politician, a great friend of Russia with many great contributions to establishing Vietnam - Russia relations, as well as strengthening the friendship between the people of the two countries.
President Ho Chi Minh always lives in the minds of the Russian people, especially the people of St. Petersburg – where Uncle Ho first set foot in Russia more than 100 years ago. Governor Alexander Beglov affirmed that the project including the square, monument and street named after Ho Chi Minh will become a new symbol of the friendship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.
At the ceremony, Madam Ngo Phuong Ly, along with guests, representatives of the two countries, Russian people, and the Vietnamese community in Russia respectfully offered flowers to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh - Hero of National Liberation, World Cultural Celebrity honored by UNESCO. The Vietnamese art troupe performed a number of art pieces praising President Ho Chi Minh's great contributions to national liberation, as well as the Vietnam-Russia friendship.
The song "Ho Chi Minh is the most beautiful name" performed by artist Khac Hoa and the song "Singing in the Pac Bo forest" performed by artist Bao Yen. Each melody and lyrics resounded in the solemn atmosphere at the square, creating a feeling of emotion, pride, and gratitude to the great leader, the first President of Vietnam, while reminding the people of the two countries to uphold the loyal and close friendship between Vietnam and Russia.
The inauguration of Ho Chi Minh Square in St. Petersburg, Russia is an important event to celebrate the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia, continuing to mark a milestone in the friendly relationship between Vietnam and Russia, especially between the two twin cities of Ho Chi Minh City and St. Petersburg. The square is a cultural destination, a gathering place for tourists from near and far and the people of St. Petersburg as well as the Vietnamese people every time they visit Russia and the ancient capital of St. Petersburg.
On the same day, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly visited Secondary School No. 488, which has the most prominent Ho Chi Minh space and is always a red address to welcome Vietnamese delegations. The Lady respectfully presented the school with a statue of President Ho Chi Minh, presented the book "Ho Chi Minh with Vietnam - Russia friendship", a model of the simple stilt house where Uncle Ho lived and worked, presented the students with badges with Uncle Ho's image, and advised them to always be good and study well.
Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly also hopes that in the future there will be a school named after him in the city where beloved Uncle Ho first set foot in Soviet Russia in 1923 on his journey to find a way to save the country.
