The training formation consisted of Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters of the 916th Regiment (371st Air Division), in coordination with forces from the 917th Regiment (370th Air Division) and the 930th Regiment (372nd Air Division). Before the formation took off, the Mi-171 helicopter with the call sign SAR 04 performed a meteorological reconnaissance flight.
From early morning, ground technicians were on duty to thoroughly check the aircraft's machinery and equipment to ensure the flight crew was prepared before takeoff.
The aircraft squadrons were charged, refueled, and ready for the A80 training flight mission.
The biggest difficulty was that pilots from the three regions of North, Central and South met. Pilots from Regiments 917 and 930 had not had much time to get used to the weather and terrain conditions in Hanoi . After a period of training, the flight teams became more proficient and coordinated smoothly during the deployment of flight formations.
From early morning, preparations were carried out synchronously. To carry out the mission, the technical team quickly got into position and checked the entire aircraft. From the electrical system, gas, engine to the details, technical parameters, fuel level... everything was thoroughly checked, ensuring that each helicopter was in optimal condition and absolutely safe before performing the flight mission.
Ten helicopters simultaneously took off, entering a special flight practice, flying in formation with flags in preparation for the demonstration flight mission at the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Minh Phu - Deputy Commander of Military Training, Regiment 916, said that the flying formation was organized 1-3-3-3, flying at an altitude of 150m or more over the stands. The formation kept a distance of 100m, 50-50 distance.
"Flying over the stands during the celebration is a great honor and responsibility for the pilots of the three regiments participating in the A80 mission," said Lieutenant Colonel Tran Minh Phu.
The pilots are well-trained, have good flying skills and qualifications, and have accumulated a lot of flying hours. However, with a new flight formation and new terrain, the flight crews must get used to and study the new flight plan and terrain. "We have to organize training so that the pilots and flight crews are most proficient, can fly in coordination and maintain the best formation when flying over the stands, ensuring the right time and the right distance," said Lieutenant Colonel Tran Minh Phu.
The helicopters fly at an average speed of 100 to 140 km/h, maintaining a stable altitude as required to ensure safety and maximum visual effect.
According to the plan, at the parade on the upcoming National Day on September 2, a formation of 10 helicopters will fly in celebration over the capital's sky, combined with a number of other military aircraft in the Vietnam People's Army's inventory such as Su-30MK2, Yak-130, L-39NG and Casa.
