On the morning of November 1, the Executive Committee of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee announced the decision on the establishment of the Dong Trieu City Party Committee and the decision on the establishment of the Duc Chinh Ward Party Committee, the Viet Dan Commune Party Committee and the Party Committees of 4 communes upgraded to wards.
At the conference, Mr. Dang Xuan Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Quang Ninh province affirmed that the establishment of Dong Trieu city and new wards and communes is the joy and pride of the locality, creating new momentum for socio-economic development, contributing to the development of the province in particular and the Red River Delta region in general.
After 9 years of establishing the town, Dong Trieu has made efforts to implement planning and population targets, especially socio-economic development, to reach the level of a type 3 urban area by 2020. In the period of 2020-2025, the town has promoted the implementation of three strategic breakthroughs, mobilizing about 27,500 billion VND to invest in synchronously upgrading traffic, technical, urban infrastructure, water supply and drainage systems and improving the quality of people's lives.
From a purely agricultural district, up to now, 100% of the communes of Dong Trieu city have basically completed the criteria of a model new rural area. The economic growth rate in the period of 2021 - 2023 reached 13.6%, the average income per capita in 2023 reached more than 163 million VND, 1.6 times higher than the national average.
Previously, on September 28, the National Assembly Standing Committee passed a resolution on the establishment of Dong Trieu city, which officially took effect from November 1.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoan, Chairman of Dong Trieu City People's Committee, said that the locality is the gateway of Quang Ninh province, connecting provinces and cities such as Bac Giang, Hai Phong, Hai Duong and key provinces of the Northern region to be worthy of being a young, dynamic, civilized, modern and affectionate city.
Previously, Quang Ninh province had the following cities: Ha Long, Cam Pha, Uong Bi, Mong Cai.
