Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Donald Trump, Barack Obama and Joe Biden have all visited Vietnam.

"That demonstrates Washington's strong support for promoting relations with an important country like Vietnam," the Ambassador affirmed.

“We highly value Vietnam’s role in the region and globally. We highly value the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that our two countries have. We support an independent, strong, prosperous, and resilient Vietnam. We respect Vietnam’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political system,” the Ambassador said.

He affirmed that these are things that will not change, because they have become the basic foundation in bilateral relations.

The Ambassador expressed his strong belief that, regardless of the outcome of this election, the foundation and fundamental elements in the relationship between the United States and Vietnam will continue to be strengthened and developed strongly. He also said that the coming time, in 2025, when the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, will be more meaningful and open up more opportunities for cooperation between the two sides in all fields.

Ambassador Knapper also expressed his joy and pride that many young people, pupils and students in Vietnam are interested in the US election. He hopes that on this occasion, young people can learn about how the US electoral system works and how this country chooses its leaders for the next 4 years.

The event on the morning of November 6 was for students from universities and high schools in Hanoi to access, learn about and experience the US election process.
